Biography

Dr Aleksi Knuutila is a social scientist and developer with an interest in civic technologies and new forms of collaboration around data.

Working together with Open Knowledge Finland and the Finnish Prime Minister’s office, he is co-authoring a report on the design and potential benefits of applying the MyData principles on public sector data, as well as collaborating on a new version of the original MyData white paper.

Knuutila has also developed digital tools for exercise of rights to access information, through both freedom of information and personal data requests. His project getyourdata.org aims to create a platform that supports the use of subject access requests in the United Kingdom. In 2017 he is collaborating with the Open Ministry to process data about the connection between interest groups and members of parliament in Finland. The project is also trying out new citizen-led practices of producing sets of open data and their collective analysis.
