The great MyData GDPR Debate

The GDPR empowers citizens with several fundamentally new rights. This session will summarise some of those new rights with an exciting keynote and three supporting presentations. In particular we will discuss the various implementation opportunities, technical and legal challenges and form a view on how these new rights should manifest for a mydata economy. We will then enter an audience participatory debate led by the speaker panel and your GDPR Mydata hosts, finalised with 4 key questions the debate has surfaced and poll the audience views on the most likely market solutions.

Use Case Pitching

The pitching session will consist of two parts. Firstly, short presentations on use cases enabled by the new MyData approaches to Personal Data. Secondly, an interactive session on how to define the landscape of possible use cases demonstrating how MyData expands possibilities from today, and choosing which presentations should be on main stage in the “Best Use Cases of 2017” session (following day).

Consumer Data Workshop

Finally, determine how companies and activists help consumers learn about data capabilities provided by GDPR. Sign-up to this workshop in advance!

Personal Data Coaching

This workshop will focus on the data we spread all around the internet when we are using digital services. Today this data is used to identify us, follow us, shape us for very different purposes: from the purely statistical to the commercial. During the course of this workshop, participants will bring their devices (mobile phone, computer) and we will help them find practical ways to better protect but also better manage their personal data. Our Data

Human-centric personal data use is often discussed in individualistic terms. We depart from the individualistic framework and promote discussion of how the capacities of data technology might be harnessed to promote social justice, new forms of agency, participation, and collective action. Motivating questions include, but are not limited to: How could collective action be leveraged to counter power imbalances in the data economy? Much of personal data is fundamentally social in nature – how to approach ‘our data’ instead of ‘my data’? How can people share their personal data, creating social and use value for their community, beyond the economic value generated by the mediating platform? What should we do with the ‘data excess’ that we are generating and what are the steps that could lead to ‘data frugality’?

Why do they share? Why do they care?

What if you could get hints on the motivations behind individuals' willingness to share their data and to protect them? In this session we will address the issue of personal data from the individual's' behavior angle. The different presentations will make it easier for you to understand what motivates people to disclose their personal data, as well as what prompts them to use data protecting tools.

Cities Driving for Personal Data

In this session we will hear first how cities are opening up their personal data for creating better services, how cities approach digital identity and identification question. In general the session tackles the question what kind of personal data platform strategy cities should take. Should they be platform providers or what kind of platforms should they support. How should they interoperate with others? What are critical features for the personal data platforms from the city perspective. The session will have keynote presentations and panel discussion.
